Early 2030sProject Overview
FlatironDragados and joint-venture partner Sukut Construction were selected for the preconstruction services phase of the Wild Horse Reservoir project to help Aurora, Colorado, meet long-term water needs. Our team has been contracted for three years at $6.5 million to conduct predesign and preconstruction services. In addition, $5.5 million is allocated to evaluate the location of a future test quarry and implement its construction. The overall value of the collaborative Construction Manager/General Contractor project is estimated to be between $600 million and $800 million for the construction phase.
Aurora is one of the fastest-growing cities in Colorado but is not located near a major water source. The reservoir (to be built in Park County) will enable the city to improve reliability and resiliency of its water system, help expand potable reuse to meet future water needs as well as provide water management flexibility during droughts or system emergencies.
The project will include three dams, more than 11 miles of 60-66-inch pipeline and more than 10 million cubic yards of earthwork (depending on final dam-type selection) — to create a reservoir with a water volume of up to 93,000 acre-feet. It will have 12 approximate shore miles. Given the complexity of the project, the CM/GC delivery method is ideal, fostering early and ongoing collaboration with all stakeholders.
